For our first instalment, we’re happy to speak with 7 Network journalist and presenter Sally Bowrey.

Did you always want to be a journalist? What inspired you and led you down this path?

It’s simple. I love great stories — a story can spotlight who we are or who we want to be. The truth is always far more compelling than fiction - often stranger too - so that drew me to journalism.

What values do you hold onto while working in such a fast-paced and competitive industry?

Be fair and honest and a good team player. You can’t get the news to air without a whole team; it’s a huge operation. I’m so proud of the team I work with. They are the best at what they do.  Also, they are all up for and laugh - which is essential - in a fast-paced work environment.

What’s one thing people still misunderstand about your line of work?

That it's glamorous! 

What’s the most memorable story you’ve covered or presented, and why?

I’ve covered many stories from natural disasters to the Queen’s death but it’s some of the smaller stories making personal connections with everyday Australians that have stuck with me the most.

What’s the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt from a mentor, peer, or role model?

To be curious! Ask questions like a kid would...but why? And then what? All the best in the biz cut right to the heart of the story by just being endlessly interested. 

What are your ultimate style essentials?

Wide leg pants, gold accessories, white men's style T-shirts, adidas sambas and a baseball cap! One of my work colleagues likes to joke that off duty I dress like a female Jacob Elordi! But after all the TV glam…I need comfort!

How do you stay focused and inspired?

Love what you do and find the fun in it...and that's not just work that applies to everything in life!
