Your Guide to the Best Hat Styles for Diamond Face Shapes
While it’s true that you only need a head for a hat, finding one that suits your style and your face shape could take your style game to the next level. (Special shout out to our friends who have a diamond face shape!) All styles look great on everyone, but there are ones that complement your features just right — like they were tailor-made for you. And there’s something so special about wearing something that fits your style and aesthetic to a tee. Being comfortable in what you wear leads to confidence. You stand taller, you smile wider, and you just feel great.
How do you achieve this with hats and headwear? Start with the shape — of your face that is.
How to know your face shape
There are five common face shapes: oval, square, round, heart, and diamond. They are distinguished by their distinct features. In some cases, they’re pretty easy to tell by just looking at one’s face. But if you want to be certain (and a bit technical), you may also measure different areas of your face.
Take out your tape measure and a notebook and pen to jot down your measurements. Here we go!
Start with your face length from top to bottom. Measure from the top of your forehead to the lowest part of your chin.
Then, measure your forehead width. You got it — from hairline to hairline on the sides of your face. Once you’re done with that, go ahead and locate the highest part of your cheekbone and measure the space between your left and right cheeks.
Finish it off by finding out your jawline width. Measure from the end of your ear till the centre of your chin. Multiply the number you get by two.
Now that you have your numbers, you’ll find it easier to determine your face shape based on their ratio and distinct visual cues.

What is a diamond face shape?
Now, you’re here because you have a diamond face shape. How do you know that you have one?
High and strong cheekbones. The distance between cheekbones is slightly wider than forehead length. Chin is narrow and pointed. If you ticked all these boxes, you have a diamond face shape!
Best hats for diamond face shapes
Now that you’re 100% sure that you have a diamond face shape, it’s time to pick a hat that will not only help you fight against harmful UV rays but also look and feel great. Here are the styles that work best with your features.
Newsboy caps

A newsboy cap, with its volume at the top, helps provide a balance to your features and overall look. The vintage but edgy vibe it lends to an ensemble is also a showstopper.
Top tip: Look for one that has a more structured silhouette rather than floppy. These are easier to transition from casual looks to more formal ensembles.
Panama or fedora hats

A somewhat universally flattering style, the fedora is a great pick for your face shape (and everyone else’s if we’re keeping it real). Its brim helps to balance the strength of your cheekbones. Not to mention it looks good for both casual and more special occasion looks.
Top tip: Choose a hat made from wool. The material has been proven to be great at keeping you shielded from the sun during summer and keeping you warm during cold winter nights.
Outback or cowboy hats

You’ll love wearing this style of hat if you have a diamond face shape — and if you love a more rugged, outdoorsy look. An outback or cowboy hat perfectly complements your favourite features (striking cheekbones and angular face shape) thanks to its tilted brim and pinched crown. Wear one on a day under the sun and you’re all set.
Top tip: Aside from the usual straw hats, you can also enjoy this style in a more laidback look like a crochet-inspired weave. It’s perfect for amping up your style for music festivals, days at the beach, and more.
